The Witcher developer CD Projekt Red has announced that Gwent is getting its own official tournament at Gamescom in August, with the two-day event taking place between August 25 and 26.

The event will take place in the Gwent Booth in the Entertainment Area of Gamescom (hall 8, stand B021, for those who are interested), which is also where the studio will be showing off new content for the game.

Eight players will compete for their share of the $25,000 USD prize pool, with seven of these being the top players of those who sign up to play in the tournament, as decided by their ranking on August 1 at 15:00 BST. The eighth player will be the winner of a Wild Card Qualifiers event on August 24 at the Gwent booth.

What's extra exciting about this announcement, though, is that the press release says: "The tournament is part of a larger esports plan for Gwent to be revealed during the show."

More information about the tournament can be found here, which is also the link you should visit if you want to sign up. Does Gwent have a bright future ahead of it?
