David Ayer muistetaan muun muassa käsikirjoittajana elokuvasta Training Day, ja toisaalta ohjaajana elokuvasta Fury. Ayer oman tiedonantonsa oli keskeinen tekijä Fast & Furious -sarjalle. Hän käsikirjoitti melkein koko tekstin uudelleen, jonka Gary Scott Thompson ja Erik Bergquist olivat tehneet. Kaksikko oli innoittunut katuautoiluartikkelista, jonka olivat lukeneet lehdestä Racer X. Palkkaa työstään Ayer ei saanut, eikä edes nimeään itse elokuvaan.
