Halo 4 vuonna 2012 esitteli maailmalle Forerunner-pahiksen Didact, ja sen jälkeen heppua on nähty ainoastaan sarjakuvassa Halo: Escalation. Nyt paluu on tehty romaanissa Halo: Epitaph.
Didact onkin se päähenkilö, ja tarinan on kirjoittanut Kelly Gay. Hänen aiempia töitään ovat Halo: Smoke and Shadow ja Halo: Renegades.
