Independent Games Festival (IGF) -palkinnot jaetaan GDC-tapahtuman aikana maaliskuussa, ja kyseessä ovat ehkä arvostetuimmat palkinnot indie-peleille. Aiempia voittajia ovat olleet muun muassa Minecraft, Fez, Papers, Please ja Her Story.
Tänä vuonna useita ehdokkuuksia ovat saaneet Night in the Woods, Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy, Into the Breach ja Baba is You. West of Loathing ja Heat Signature ovat ehdolla Seumas McNally Grand Prizeeen. Cuphead on ehdokkaana visuaalisesta tyylistä ja äänimaailmasta.
Kyseisten pelien ei tarvitse olla vielä valmistuneita ja julkaistuja, joten palkintogaala on siten hieman tavallisuudesta poikkeava.
