James Cameronin elokuva Avatar tuli ulos silloin joskus 2009, ja jatkoa on puuhattu kuin sitä kuuluisaa Iisakin kirkkoa. Jatko-osa näytettiin ensi kertaa maailmalle CinemaConissa 3D-lasien kera. Koko rainaa ei toki näytetty, vaan ainoastaan pieni pätkä. Reaktioista päätellen Avatar: The Way of Water tekee vaikutuksen.
Tuottaja Jon Landaun mukaan on luotava kokemus, jollaista ei saa muualta.

CinemaCon oli panostanut Dolbyn sponsoroimana äänimaailmaan. Mukana olivat Dolby Atmos ja päälle 4K HFR/HDR -laserprojektorijärjestelmä.
Avatar: The Way of Water lanseerataan pitkin maailmaa useammassa eri muodossa kuin mikään elokuva aiemmin. Asiaa kommentoi Nation Association of Theatre Ownersin pomo.
