Uusi konsolisukupolvi on alkanut, joten julkinen huomio on vahvasti suunnattuna laitteisiin Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S ja Playstation 5. Siitä huolimatta Nintendo Switchillä pyyhkii edelleen hienosti, ja joidenkin ennustusten mukaan Switch tulee olemaan se vuoden 2021 eniten myyty konsoli.
Aikoinaan Nintendo Wii oli omiaan kasvattamaan konsolipelaamisen markkinoita, ja nyt Nintendo Switch tekee aivan samaa. New Media Measure kyselee neljä kertaa vuodessa 9000 kuluttajalta heidän tottumuksistaan.
Vuonna 2019 12% vastasi Nintendo Switchin olevan ainoa konsoli taloudessa. Vuoden 2020 lopussa lukema oli 25%.
"We can infer from this that Nintendo has been expanding the overall console pie (much as it did with the original Wii) as new console gamers enter the marketplace. In fact, there's a likelihood that consumers age 45 and up (many of whom grew up on the original NES) drove a good portion of spending on Switch - Nintendo has cited parents as a sales factor, too."
