"Hello everyone and welcome to a brand new Gamereactor Gamescom Impressions video in which today we're going to talk about a game that I was really looking forward to just talk about it, a game that just grabbed my attention once I saw the trailer, the announcement trailer for the very first time, and a game that luckily I had the chance to just check out a little bit at Gamescom 2023 and that's why we're here today, because I want to talk to you and I want to share with you my very own impressions and what I've learned about this title, okay?
So there we go! In case that you don't know the title, The Blackest Squire is an action-adventure game developed by All Possible Futures and published by Devolver Digital in which some storybook characters discover a three-dimensional world outside the pages of their book and they'll have to jump between these 2D and 3D realms to save their friends, although I'm sure that some of you already knew or at least had seen something of this title as it attracted a lot of attention when it was first announced, it was just an introduction just in case, but well, I have to say that even if you've heard of it, I don't think you can get an idea of how much fun this title is going to be, seriously it's my kind of game, it's cute, it's beautiful, it's funny, it can be challenging, but well, let's start from the beginning."

"The first thing I wanted to make clear is that according to some of the title's development team, the game will feature two modes, a story mode and an adventure mode. The story mode will obviously focus on the main story and will feature a standard difficulty while the adventure mode will provide much more challenging adventure for those who want it, so if you were worried that the game might be a bit childish or simple for you but you wanted to play it because, I don't know, the visual art just grabbed your attention or not because you were interested in the story or whatever but you don't want to get bored, don't worry, you'll be able to enjoy the charm of this magical world and add a touch of extra difficulty in case that you want to. However, in this video we're going to focus on the story mode because it's the one that I could see the most during Gamescom. So in this mode we will have to basically explore, jump from one world to another, play with words and face challenging enemies in order to save our friends from the evil villain and while it may seem that the story is going to be more outdoors focused than in the book or at least that's what I thought at the beginning, it's actually the opposite, which actually makes sense as the main characters leave and want to stay in their book but they have to go outside in order to face these evil villains so overall we could say that we will spend like 60% in the book, inside the book and 40% outside, more or less. But believe me, that doesn't mean that the game will be less interesting than you thought it could be. Both worlds have a unique essence and they'll present us with very different challenges that we will have to deal with if we want to progress in the story and this change of environments and this change of essence, just as I said, it's not going to be represented just by the artwork, which is obvious if you've seen the trailer, but even the music will indicate that we're in another world while inside the book the music will remain like much simpler. When we go outside everything will become much more complex and therefore so will the music, which I think it's a great detail that it's going to keep fresh this essence about changing between 2D and 3D realms and I don't know, I just found it amazing. And well, as for the gameplay, it will obviously change depending on whether we're inside the book or outside it. However, the development team assured us that they wanted to constantly surprise the player so they've made sure that everything we do in the game has an impact even if it's not the right thing to continue the story. For example, inside the book we will play with the words, as I've said before, in order to achieve one result or another and even if at that specific moment of the story we need to, for example, reduce the size of our enemy to be able to pass through a place or to a path or whatever, if instead of that specific adjective we put another one, the game will give us a visual response and we will see how the enemy adapts to that adjective we have put on him. So every time we try something new, even if it's not the right thing to do, we'll get a surprise and the game's not going to punish you, completely the opposite, it's going to give you a refreshing stimulus. And the same thing will happen when we go outside, for example, it's not going to give you those visual effects with the adjectives as we've said but, for example, they're going to play obviously with perspective because we have this big change of perspective so you can expect a lot of secrets hidden behind a corner that we can't seem to access at first sight. So they're going to keep giving us all the time those surprises and those things that you don't expect. So it's always going to be like a fresh beginning every time that we get in or out from the book. In general, the experience that this game wants to offer us is a touching, beautiful and interesting story with touches of constant freshness, as I've said, with these changes of environment and mechanics. They wanted the player to have a good time both exploring, trying new things and making mistakes, just as a child would do. And that is just as the protagonist of the story would probably do. And also they don't want the experience to stop there."

"Although nothing is confirmed, obviously, and they didn't tell us that they were working on it, but the studio has considered expanding the world and maybe the story with some DLC in the future.
Although, as I say, nothing is confirmed and this will be for much later if it comes to light at the end. But what I'm trying to say is that they're really, really happy with the result."

"They're really happy with this delay because now they had time to just clean everything and let everything as they wanted. And that they wouldn't mind continuing to expand both its story and its environment. So that just encourages this freshness feeling all the time, because we can expect some more new things in the future, not only in the story or in the adventure mode. And I thought that that could be really interesting for those who, at the very end, enjoy the title."

"So, as a conclusion, because I'm talking too much, I think that the delay, as I've said, of its release has been very good for them to just polish everything. All its mechanics and, well, just, as I've said, to leave the game as they want it, which I think will please us all.
And that's it. It's not going to be any problem. That will please us all, so please wait, because I promise you it's going to be a really cool thing and they've actually taken care of their product, of their title and of their game, because that's what they wanted."

"Just offer us a brand new thing, a polished thing, and a really cute thing for us to enjoy it and maybe in the future give us more content. And, well, basically, thanks to what I saw during Gamescom and I can assure you that everything, the combat system, the exploration, the story and the entire game itself will be very worthwhile and we will hopefully enjoy a very good title very soon. So, that would be it, my guys. Just wait for it, just enjoy it."

"It's going to be completely worthwhile, the waiting and the delay, and we're going to have a really cool story to just enjoy. For those indie fans, I know you're there, you're going to love it.
I'm going to love it and I'm going to shout a lot the very first time that I'll be able to just play it and I had to admit that. And I won't regret anything, you know me. But, well, that will be it for today. Just please stay tuned, just please wait for it, because it's going to be worth it."

"And, well, keep watching our Gamescom Impressions video, because, as you see, we can tell you if a title has been delayed, if it's going to be worth it, to just wait for it. If it's not, what have we seen? What are the exact details about the game? Because, for example, when I saw this gameplay at Gamescom 2023, I saw the trailers and I saw some things about the title, but I didn't expect it to be that smooth, that dynamic and that beautiful and that cool. So, I don't know, like that you can just, well, get an idea of what to expect of different games. So, stay tuned and watch all our Game Reactor Gamescom Impressions videos. Thank you for being here. See you then in the next video. Have fun, take care and, as always, hugs and kisses to all of you, my guys."

"See you in the next one. Bye-bye!"
